Since having our daughter, I’m always looking out for shows that aren’t as stimulating for her. While she loves many different TV shows, I can tell which ones can be more calming than others. In reality, all television is stimulating, but some shows and movies are more stimulating than others. Think of shows that have very bright colors, fast screen shifts, high-pitched voices, lots of singing/dancing, and advanced graphics. While shows like this are definitely fun to watch, I try to allow them in moderation for our daughter.
I’ve always liked seeing other parents’ lists of low-stimulating shows for their kids, and this made me want to put together a list of our favorites. While they may be hard to look for, there’s definitely a lot of good options out there! A good tip is to look for shows that have less of the traits listed above. Shows that are older are also good options as they have less advanced graphics and are a little bit slower than things made on TV today. PBS is another great resource for shows, and it’s free for everyone.
