Hi everyone! Hope you’re all staying warm this December. I’m always doing my nails at home myself, and every time I wonder why I don’t post about them! I get asked about my nails a lot and people are surprised to find out that I do them myself. Ever since having my daughter, it got harder to make it to the nail salon to get them done in person. Eventually, I decided to get all the supplies to do them myself and it’s been a game-changer!

Amazon has really everything you need to do your own nails. Whether you want them plain with just polish or if you want to go crazy with the nail art, Amazon has it all. Last year, I bought a huge set of Christmas nail decals and I was so excited to use them again this year. These stickers make it so easy to do nail art without spending a ton of time hand painting or stamping designs. Just last night, I did these super cute reindeer and snowflake nails that I’ve decided to write about in this post!

Snowflake and reindeer nail design

Below, I’ll break down how I did these nails step-by-step. It was super easy once I decided what design I wanted to go with! I’ll also include a list of supplies that I used. Some supplies are optional depending on if you want to do hard gel, gel polish only, acrylic, etc. Really all you need are the supplies to do the nail art. Since I’m using hard gel and gel polish, I also have an electric nail file and UV lamp. If you’d like links to the nail file or UV light, comment below and I’ll be happy to respond with the ones I use!

Supplies Used:

Step 1:

To start, I file down my nails to get rid of my previous gel polish and design, and then I trim down the length that they grew out since the last time I did my nails. Once this is done, I apply the nail prep dehydrator and primer.

Step 2:

Now that my nails are prepped, I apply the builder gel. If this is your first time with builder gel, it might take a couple times to get the hang of it. If you already have hard gel on your nails, then you only need a thin layer, making this step much easier. I really like the color of the milky white gel. A lot of times, I won’t even use a colored gel polish on top because I like how the milky white looks by itself. You could also use a milky white gel polish for this step if you don’t want hard gel.

Step 3:

Next, apply the top coat before applying the pearl/glaze powder. After applying the powder, you’ll need another layer of top coat to give the stickers a nice, clean base to stick onto.

Step 4:

Now you can apply your nail art stickers. I like to use thin tweezers to apply them more precisely, and to make it easier to pull them off the sticker sheet. I used two snowflakes on both my ring and pointer fingers, then a reindeer in the middle. Make sure the stickers are laid flat as smooth as possible to prevent any bubbles when applying the top coat.

Step 5:

All that’s left now is the final layer of top coat. If you have a clear builder gel, you could use this over the stickers. I use a top coat by itself, but I make sure to add a thick layer on top of the stickers. Sometimes I have to add 2-3 top coat layers to make sure the stickers are covered. If there are any bubbles or pieces of sticker exposed through the top coat, you’ll be able to feel them when rubbing your nail. If a part of the sticker is still exposed, they can lift later on causing your design to not last as long.
