Hi everyone! I hope you all are having a good week. Today I’m going to discuss cleaning makeup brushes. When I realized I needed to clean my brushes, I began to think whether I should use micellar cleansing water or baby shampoo.
I already use baby shampoo as a cleanser for my eyelash extensions, so I always have it on hand. Call me crazy, but I’ve never bought an actual brush cleanser because I always find things that I already have at home for cleaning my makeup brushes.

So, because I was debating so much which to use to clean my brushes, I decided to do a little experiment using the two products as a makeup brush cleanser and write a post about it. I washed half of my makeup brushes with baby shampoo, and the other half with micellar cleansing water.
Below you will find before and after photos of some of my makeup brushes after experimenting with both baby shampoo and micellar cleansing water as brush cleansers. (If I included photos of all my makeup brushes, we would be here all day. 😉)

Micellar Cleansing Water Results:

Baby Shampoo Results:

To be completely honest, I feel both baby shampoo and micellar cleansing water worked great at making my makeup brushes look clean, but I did notice some differences when using the two.
The baby shampoo was much quicker and easier to use than the micellar cleansing water. I felt that the baby shampoo really got into all nooks and crannies of my makeup brushes.

The micellar cleansing water left somewhat of a greasy residue on my brushes, even after rinsing them out well with warm tap water. It also was much harder to get all of the makeup off with the micellar water, because it didn’t get into the crevices like the baby shampoo did.
Overall, I would have to say baby shampoo is my go-to for washing my makeup brushes. Cleaning my brushes with baby shampoo was much easier and more thorough than the micellar cleansing water. Also, because baby shampoo is gentle enough to use on my eyelash extensions, I imagine it is very gentle on the fibers of makeup brushes.

Thanks for sharing this! I hate cleaning my brushes. I’m going to grab some baby shampoo so maybe it’ll be easier next time. 🙂
Cleaning makeup brushes is one of my least favorite things to do too. Thanks for checking out my post, and I hope the baby shampoo helps!
Those new kinds of sponges (silicone?) are also hard to get clean. I will pass on this tip to my daughter, thanks!

I find that as well with the silicone ones, but the baby shampoo should make it much easier. Thank you for checking out my post!
I usually just use handsoap, because this works to. I don’t really now if this is good and I know there are products specially for cleaning brushes, I just havn’t bought/tested them yet (:
I usually use hand soap, dish soap, or makeup remover too. I’m sure baby shampoo works similarly to hand soap. Using products you already have at home just makes things easier!
Love this! I used to use my son’s baby shampoo on my brushes too.
Thanks! Baby shampoo does work surprisingly well.
This is really helpful – big thank you!
So glad you found this helpful. Thank you for checking out my post!
I usually mix dish soap and vegetable oil to clean mine but I’ll have to give these a try!
That sounds like a good idea too. I hope it works well for you!

Awesome post! I never even thought about using micellar water before. I usually use bar soap! I should switch to baby
Thank you! I used to always use regular soap too. I hope baby shampoo works well for you if you do switch over!
Definitely going to try the baby shampoo!! Thank you 😁
Awesome I hope you like it! 😊
Love this! I will definitely try the baby shampoo!
Are all those brushes yours ? 😂
Yes, they are! 😄
